Sergeant First Class Daniel Phillips was one of eight Americans captured or missing after the fall of the Lang Vei Special Forces Camp during the 1968 Tet Offensive. The others were

The following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The special supplement was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial.

"Dan" Phillips had dreamed of becoming a Green Beret since he was a child. He enlisted in the Army in 1966 after attending West Philadelphia High School and fulfilled the dream when he took and completed Special Forces training. Phillips was sent to Viet Nam. The 23-year-old sergeant first class disappeared in Quang Tri Province on February 7, 1968, during the Tet offensive. He was awarded the Silver Star. Phillips is one of nine MIA's from Philadelphia.
