A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 27 Mar 1967 a flight of four A-4s from the KITTY HAWK was targeted against the Dao My road bridge some 20 miles northwest of Vinh. LT Palenscar was flying "tail end Charlie" in A-4C BuNo 148519 and was the last to roll in against the target. He called clear of the target but failed to rejoin his flight. Search and rescue efforts failed to locate aircraft or pilot - Palenscar had simply disappeared.

He was carried as Missing in Action until the Secretary of the Navy approved a Presumptive Finding of Death on 25 May 1973. On 28 August 1996 remains thought to be his were repatriated, but positive identification was not announced until 04 Nov 2002.
